AI Transparency: nonprofit communications under the EU AI Act

Date: 22 October 2026
Time: 16:00-17:00 CEST
What This SMART Session Is About

An AI-drafted newsletter. A generated campaign image. A report prepared with AI assistance. A chatbot answering questions on an NGO’s website. When must an organisation tell its audience that AI was involved? What changes when someone reviews the content? And who is responsible?
Transparency matters for the trust nonprofits build with their communities, supporters and partners. The EU AI Act also sets specific transparency requirements for certain AI uses. This 60-minute SMART Session explains what these rules mean for everyday nonprofit work and how to apply them in practice.
The session will clarify which responsibilities belong to the organisation using AI and which belong to the technology provider. This includes what to consider when developing or commissioning a chatbot under an organisation’s own name.
We will explain how providers mark AI-generated content so that software can recognise its origin, and how this differs from a visible notice for an audience. Practical examples will show what checks for AI involvement can—and cannot—establish, and why those checks do not replace an organisation’s own review and disclosure decisions.

Preparation (Optional)
Bring an example of AI-assisted content your organisation creates, such as a newsletter, report, social media post or campaign image. Questions about disclosure, human review or responsibilities for a chatbot are also welcome. Practical examples will connect the session’s content to everyday decisions in nonprofit work.
This SMART Session is part of our broader AI Literacy Training Programme for NGOs, helping nonprofit teams build the knowledge and judgement to use AI confidently, responsibly and effectively.
